News # 7 Forge World Newletter #285

Dark eldar Tantalus 85£

First crafted, so it is said, for the Archon Surasis Grief of the Kabal of the Dark Mirror, the Tantalus is an assault skimmer, somewhat larger and more complex in design than the Raider, and accordingly better armed. Its distinctive twin-hulled design houses powerful engine-reactors slaved to enhanced drives and its unique scythevane armament.
One of the largest Dark Eldar vehicles yet encountered by the Imperial war machine, the cruel reavers who crew this sleek engine of destruction take delight in mounting high-speed attacks, slicing through the hulls of enemy vehicles and rending infantry into crimson shreds, heralded by the screech of the molecular dissonance fields of its scythevanes and the rapid fire of its pulse-disintegrator armament.

The dark eldar tantalus, designed by Daren Parrwood, is a detailed full resin kit that includes a set of etched brass deck panels. Measuring nearly 11” from prow to stern, this twin-hulled vehicle is a great addition to any Dark Eldar army. With its full rules contained Imperial Armour Apocalypse Second Edition.

The Imperial emplacement 22£

Adding to our new range of hollow resin scenery is the Imperial emplacement, designed by Blake Spence.
This detailed free-standing terrain piece has been designed as a dug-in position for almost any size of Warhammer 40,000 vehicle, from Chimeras and Leman Russ to Macharius and Malcador-based super heavy tanks. The Imperial Emplacement features a wealth of detail such as ammunition stowage, unexploded munitions, a targeting cogitator and an observer’s position. The base of the Imperial Emplacement has been reinforced with trench plates to act as duckboards, and the scenery piece also features plenty of space for crew models as well as vehicles.
Ideal for use as both a gaming piece to fight battles over or the basis of a detailed diorama, the Imperial Emplacement is available to order now for immediate despatch.

Interview # 4 Haywiregrenade Iyanden Army

Hi Today we speak about the Iyanden eldar army of Haywiregrenade.

Since how many time are you working on this army?
I have been working on my Eldar for about 6 years now. It started out as a 1900 point army for a Warhammer 40k Campaign weekend run by GW and "Darkstars", the GCN Weekend event organisers. It then became an obsession which has grown ever since.

Have you an army list for more details on its composition?
The original 1900 list was comprised of 2 parts
A 400 point combat patrol and a 1500 main army that combined to make a single 1900 list.
It was something like
400
10 Avengers in WaveSerpent
Warwalker with Bright Lances
Vyper

1500
Farseer, Guide, Doom, Spirit Stones
10 Striking Scorpions
5 Wraithguard
10 Dire Avengers in Waveserpent
5 Pathfinder Rangers
6 Fire Dragons
3 Warwalkers with Scatter Lasers

Must admit, its been a while since that list was created so memory may be a little hazy. It by no means is a competetive "meta" list.

My normal gaming army is 2000 points and varies from week to week depending on my mood. It always contains 20 Dire Avengers and a Farseer. Then it could vary from being all Mechanised to all on foot with lots of Wraith constructs.

Since how many time are you in the hobby?
Over 20 years I would say on and off. I started with Blood Bowl about 25 years ago, took a break through senior school and university and came back to it 15 years ago.

Why this army and not an other?
Like all GW fanatics, this is not my only army. I also own a 4000 point painted Space Wolf Army (actually its my second one), 5000 points of Blood Angels which is growing rapidly, and plenty of Chaos and other bits too. However this was the one that I deciced to take "Apocalyptic" because the Forgeworld model range is just too amazing to ignore!

What's yours future projects?
I have plenty on the go nearly all the time and paint pretty much 50 weeks of the year. I still have about 10,000 more points to add to the Eldar (sitting at 12,000 painted right now) including a Vampire Hunter and a Waithseer. I also have about 3000 more points of BA to do and some Thunderwolf Cav for the SW.
I also just picked up Dreadfleet, and some new Tomb Kings stuff! Busy...

Would be it possible to have a photo of the entire army?
It is very difficult to take a picture of 12,000 points of models. There are some pictures on Warseer but not a huge group shot. In 2 weekends time I'll be using 7500 of my army in a game, so i'll be taking pictures then and will add to my Warseer gallery. Feel free to come back and check them out!

And other commentary if you wants ?
Ummm, not that I can think of really! I got married to the love of my life this year?! I like going on holiday to hot countries :)

How many times you paint?
I paint for about 2 hours a day 3 days a week, and a bit longer at weekends depending if my wife permits it.

Website?
I am the founder of a website called the Space Wolf Community. Its been around for over a decade since the decline of the official Games Workshop forum.www.swchq.co.uk
Although titled the SWC, it does cater for all GW and non GW gaming, so feel free to pop in and say hello.

To part say that this army to eldar of Iyanden is magnificent, it would be necessary it's a pity not to speak about the freshest project of Haywiregrenade which does not miss size and what it would it's  pity be of don't speak about it in this blog Apocalypse.

You can find more info about it's great project at this link : http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=308116

So thanks to Haywiregrenade to this interview!

Tuto # 1 Make a tank company - Intro

Hi
This tutorial/project is build by Hiigara, This one reveals us its craftiness and his project.

Go, admit, you too like you the big armored cars with big artillery which make bang!
And indeed I too, as every good human male being, am attracted by the mechanical violence of an armored company. Doubtless that the power which a Tank kicks away make eco at our primary needs of dominion and power. In other words, I like armored cars, and especially when they are big. It is doubtless for that that the first figurine of this project was Baneblade. Indeed, who has you he of bigger and more easily accessible?

It is the release of the plastic baneblade and the supplement Apocalypse which gave to me the boost necessary for the starting up of the project. Moreover I would not be amazed if you said to me that you began a new army further to the release of a new GW kit . Because make no mistake, it is the only purpose of the marketing GW there: tempt! But it is far from being the evil, I always prefer to want to buy a new figurine, rather than  grumble because there is nothing again for my favorite game, what would drive me inexorably on the road of the resale of my armies.

You understood it, I am going to speak to you here about the realization of my project of Armored Regiment. At the beginning I spoke about armored company, but as we can read it page 108 of the supplement Apocalypse, a company consists of 10 tanks... And yes, just 10, then so much to speak directly about regiment, like that, I make sure to have always enough place for all which could cross me under the hand.

AT THE BEGINNING...

At first, there was thus a Baneblade, and with this first miniature, a question of the plan of color. In the day when I ecris these lines we are in october 2011 and Baneblade went out on 22/10/2007, what makes that I began this project a little more than 3 years ago. You will say to me that it is little late to speak about Project and about WIP, but as I am under the blow of a good dose of motivation. The inconvenience, it is because I have to remember myself of what I made 3 years ago and there, he(it) is doubtless going to have there holes... Well, the main part is to share his love of the hobby eh!

Then for the choice of the color, I admit not to remember myself any more why of how. I believe to remind myself that in the debut I wanted olive green one very military. I had moreover painted my Shadowsword Epic of this color. But afterward I doubtless found that ca got closer too much to the green classic cadian, and as I did not want to have a plan of color cadian seen and seen again, I opted for a camouflage two tones urban. Working most of the time with colors Citadel, it is thus very logically that I opted for Shadow Grey and Codex Grey.

At the beginning I proceeded by brushing and tap. That is that by leaving of one under black coat, I brushed generously every vehicle, until obtain a clean base in Shadow Grey. I did not want to proceed by aplat to save time and to simplify me the spot. To make a success of a camouflage with soft transitions, I had opted for tap. This technique consists in using a brush in the very hard hairs and in coming to tap the surface to be painted. It is a little bit long, but the result is convincing enough so that the common of the hobbyiste thinks that it is about work in the airbrush. It is in any case of what thought a good part(party) of people who saw my first armored cars. I shall return later on the paint, with a single step detailed in picture.

I am not going to persuade you with my list of army, because I especially took up this army with the aim of playing it in Apocalypse. The advantage it is because I did not have to care about points or about slots of armies, and because I was simply able to, to paint what I wanted.

The next time I shall approach the super heavy tanks!

Just à preview ;)

See you soon!

Campaign of Lacomssa # 1 Beginning

hi!
This campaign organized between 2 players of a French association (le Maelstrom), She begins with a 500pts game to end in an apocalypse game.

This narrative campaign slanders the first 32 hours of a tyranids invasion launched on the planet Lacomssa. It will be the frame of the confrontation between the chapter of FireFly of Jeronimo and Tyranides of Hiigara. This campaign will take place on 5 Acts. The confrontations will go crescendo according to the following plan.

The Act 1 will be a battle of patrol in 500 pts.
The Act 2 will be a classic W40K battle 1000 pts.
The Act 3 will take place during our associative evening of Wednesday evening. We shall take the opportunity to use the urban building of the association, what will lead us to deliver a battle in urban fight.
The Act 4 will be a mission of planetary Assault.
The Act 5 an apocalypse battle to end in beauty.

We voluntarily chose not to spread out too much on Fluff, for fear of missing time to play. At the moment we do not know still very well where all this is going to lead us, but we know on the other hand that we are going to make the maximum to share these two days with you.

See you soon for the act 1.

News # 5 Games Day Australia

The Q&A was well populated and fairly interesting. Some points of note:

- In regards to new races they asked "raise your hand if you feel your army is laggin behind in attention?" and used the fair number of hands to illustrate the more pressing need to update the current crop of Codexes first.

- Adam did go on to mention Necrons and Dark Angels as two in need of help, but it didn't sound particularly to indicate any info on forthcoming releases.

- Phil commented he would change the Court of the Archon and Dias of Destruction if he could in Codex Dark Eldar. The Court was at one point planned for a boxed set so you'd have to buy one of each so it made sense to have it that way. The Dias was a last minute job, and needed more tweaking.
He also mentioned changing the Decapitator and making some units better and some worse, but no specifics on why.

- In regards to supplements like Cities of Death and Planetstrike they said the designers used tose as a change of pace or a reward "like desert", and they wanted to do more.

- This led into a discussion about global campaigns. They are limited as they can't have huge ones that change the universe as the results might mess up the story - Adam specifically mentioned that the results for Medusa V were not what they expected. The questioner brought up that it helps get gamers involved in the universe by having a shared goal. They did ask who would be interested and got a strong positve response.

- There was talk about the design process and how ideas come about. Phil said they are trying to change the process from "you will design this" coming from above to a constant stream of pitching ideas and having a more free-flowing creativity.
They have a giant whiteboard where the studio just put up ideas for anything and get feedback and response on it. Assignments are generally given to the most eager studio member as they'll put the most work in, "and lots of unpaid overtime". There is however competition, including knife fights in the carpark, for some jobs so they painted the studio as very free-flowing.

- A question was asked about release schedules, with Dark Eldar getting more models while some armies are still waiting (this got a chorus of "Tyranids!" from the audience). The reply was that they were changing to try and do a single major release for as much as possible with only some Special Characters being delayed as they can be troublesome to get right.
Ogre Kingdoms was used as the example of this.

- Phil and Adam talked about production time of a codex. Dark Eldar was around five years of dev time, but the actual writing takes much less time, a few months or so. Most codexes take around three years from initiation to publisher.

- Talking with Adam and a guy who collected Dark Angels, the DA player commented on how he'd like to get all the Land Raider variants / Storm Raven etc. Adam replied that his design philosophy is to not do that, to avoid homogeny across the Marine ranges.
If he was to do DA, he'd instead focus on making Deathwing and Ravenwing more unique. His specific example was that Ravenwing used to get the Tornado Land Speeder, but now everyone does, so he'd go in that direction more than just giving them everyone else's toys. He was talking purely hypothetical - don't take it as a hint of future releases!
